The eNews channel will broadcast across the United Kingdom as part of an initiative to broaden the channel’s scope, it said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
“This will give us access to over 10 million homes in the UK,” the broadcaster’s head of news Patrick Conroy said in a statement.<\/p>\n
“What is really significant, though, is that we will have access to the South African expatriate community. If they want news from home it’s just a click away.”<\/p>\n
The 24-hour news service would be launched in the next few weeks through the SKY digital satellite platform. It would also unveil its “new look” before the UK launch.<\/p>\n
“Due to our expansion, we will have to rebrand our service to make it relevant to viewers abroad and here at home,” Conroy said.<\/p>\n
“It will be more of a brand tweak than an overhaul. Viewers need not be concerned. It will still be the same news service with the same content. The only difference will be our appearance.”<\/p>\n
The channel would not change the appearance of its prime-time bulletin or its Afrikaans language service on kykNET.<\/p>\n
“Those brands will remain as is. We are only rebranding the eNews channel.”<\/p>\n
Head of technical operations for eNews Rob Brown said staff were still conducting tests on the signal to the UK.<\/p>\n
“Once we are happy everything is running smoothly we’ll give it the green light. We’re getting close to finalising the test phase,” he said.<\/p>\n
