{"id":571764,"date":"2024-11-22T11:38:45","date_gmt":"2024-11-22T09:38:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=571764"},"modified":"2024-11-22T11:40:12","modified_gmt":"2024-11-22T09:40:12","slug":"multichoice-sa-and-showmax-boss-resigns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/571764-multichoice-sa-and-showmax-boss-resigns.html","title":{"rendered":"MultiChoice SA and Showmax boss resigns"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Marc Jury, the CEO of MultiChoice South Africa and Showmax, has resigned and will leave the group on 31 March 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a notice to staff on Friday, Group CEO Calvo Mawela said that Jury is moving on to pursue opportunities in the business of sport, a field that has always been close to his heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;While we are sad to see him go, we are immensely proud of the legacy he leaves behind and are grateful for the contributions he has made to the business,&#8221; Mawela stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jury was at the company for nearly ten years and held key leadership roles, including CEO of SuperSport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Under his guidance, we celebrated numerous successes, such as the SA20 cricket league, the launch of the Netball World Cup&#8217;s historic all-female production crew, the Lions rugby tour, the growth of DStv Stream, and the Showmax 2.0 launch,&#8221; said Mawela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Marc has been a passionate advocate for fostering a culture where people thrive and excel, and his positive impact on our organisation will be felt for years to come.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jury&#8217;s successor is Byron du Plessis and Mawela said they would work closely over the next four months to ensure a seamless handover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Du Plessis will step into the role of MultiChoice SA CEO on 1 December 2024, which marks the beginning of the handover period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Byron is no stranger to MultiChoice, having been with the company for over 13 years,&#8221; said Mawela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Du Plessis is currently the deputy CFO for the group and previously served as CFO of MultiChoice Corporate and MultiChoice South Africa before that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Byron has been pivotal in driving strategic initiatives and partnerships including the KingMakers, Comcast, and Sanlam deals, as well as being instrumental in the ongoing Canal+ acquisition process,&#8221; said Mawela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;His deep understanding of our business and his strong leadership in both operational and strategic capacities make him exceptionally well-suited to this role.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mawela said that as CEO, Du Plessis will focus on driving growth, enhancing execution, and fostering a winning culture for the South African business and its integrated product suite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Byron will continue to support MultiChoice Group CFO Tim Jacobs on key strategic projects at a group level but his primary focus will be on the SA business,&#8221; said Mawela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;While this is a bittersweet moment for us as we bid farewell to Marc, we are confident in Byron&#8217;s ability to build on this legacy and take MultiChoice South Africa to even greater heights.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Marc Jury has resigned from MultiChoice to pursue opportunities in the business of sport.
