{"id":57507,"date":"2012-08-26T13:17:21","date_gmt":"2012-08-26T11:17:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=57507"},"modified":"2012-08-27T14:16:27","modified_gmt":"2012-08-27T12:16:27","slug":"on-stage-tech-mishaps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/gadgets\/57507-on-stage-tech-mishaps.html","title":{"rendered":"On-stage tech mishaps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When tech companies are presenting their new devices and products to a live audience, there is always a chance things won&#8217;t go smoothly.<\/p>\n<p>More recent on-stage tech mishaps &#8211; such as the Windows 98 crash; Honda&#8217;s robot under-performing; the iPhone 4&#8217;s troubles; and Microsoft&#8217;s troublesome Surface presentation &#8211; remind us that even the top-tier of the tech elite have their fair-share of problems.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Windows 98 on-screen crash during presentation<\/h3>\n<p>Probably the most infamous and well-known on-stage tech blunder came during Microsoft\u2019s presentation of Windows 98.<\/p>\n<p>Everything was going smoothly, until a scanner was plugged into the PC.<\/p>\n<p>The notorious \u201cblue-screen\u201d of death makes a laughable appearance in front of a packed conference hall.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/er8g6D_PqvY\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Asimo doesn\u2019t make it up the stairs<\/h3>\n<p>Honda attempted to show off the pinnacle of the Japanese company\u2019s technology in the form of Asimo.<\/p>\n<p>Asismo was a robot built by Honda to emulate human movement and interactions.<\/p>\n<p>During Asimo\u2019s debut to the world, the compact white robot took a tumble down some stairs.<\/p>\n<p>While not a monumental problem, it didn\u2019t do much to spur excitement and hype around Honda\u2019s robot.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VTlV0Y5yAww\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Apple iPhone 4 Wi-Fi fail<\/h3>\n<p>Not even Steve Jobs himself could save Apple from an awkward on-stage presentation moment.<\/p>\n<p>During the demonstration of the iPhone 4G\u2019s Wi-Fi capabilities, the device was, ironically, unable to connect to Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n<p>The late Apple CEO did a good job at trying to rectify the situation, though it quickly deteriorated into a photo-sharing session.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AR4tmezObLg\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Microsoft Surface fail goes viral<\/h3>\n<p>In June, Microsoft unveiled its new Surface tablet to the world.
