Amazon.com Inc sent out invitations on Thursday to a September 6 press conference near Los Angeles, re-igniting speculation about possible new tablet devices from the world’s largest Internet retailer.<\/p>\n
Amazon did not reveal the nature of the coming announcement, but the event is being organized by the company’s Kindle<\/a> business, which includes its dominant e-book offering and devices such as e-readers and the Kindle<\/a> Fire tablet computer.<\/p>\n “There’s been a lot of rumors about another potential Kindle<\/a> tablet,” said Pete Finalle<\/a>, a tablet analyst at Frost & Sullivan.<\/p>\n Amazon plans to expand its mobile platform and broaden its offering of devices, developers and retail partners said last month. The company will introduce up to five or six tablet SKUs<\/a>, or stock-keeping units, including a 10-inch model, according to Demos Parneros, president of U.S. Retail for Staples Inc, which sells existing Kindle<\/a> devices.<\/p>\n Amazon launched its first tablet, the seven-inch Kindle<\/a> Fire, in September 2011, its first foray into a market that is still dominated by Apple<\/a> Inc’s iPad<\/a>.
