Africa’s real tech salaries in 2025

Analytico’s latest tech salary survey found that IT professionals earn well above the average salary in South Africa.

Analytico’s 2025 South African tech salary survey was conducted in February 2025 and marketed to IT professionals and executives.

More than 2,500 people responded to the survey, answering questions about their experience, position and salary.

Most respondents were ICT professionals working as developers, networking professionals, systems administrators, and executives at South African companies.

Some of the highlights from the 2025 Salary Survey include:

47% of IT professionals received a salary increase in 2025.

55% of IT professionals received a bonus last year.

60% of IT professionals think they are being paid fairly, around 40% believe they are underpaid, and less than 1% feel overpaid.

The average monthly salary among respondents working full-time is R88,635, while the average among part-time workers is R44,336.

This compares very well to the average salary in South Africa, which is unsusprising as IT professionals and skilled and sought-after workers.

Statistics South Africa released their Quarterly Employment Statistics survey results for Q3 2024 on 12 December.

This survey put the average earnings paid to employees in South Africa at R28,220.

The average salary is a good measure of how the overall market is changing, but it is less useful when benchmarking your salary against your peers, as experience and seniority are not considered.

The data is broken down in the table below by different jobs and levels and should be interpreted as follows:

Entry-level — Qualified professional with little relevant experience (10th percentile).

Experienced — Professional with relevant experience (25th percentile).

Mid-level — Professional with 5–10 years relevant experience (median).

Senior — Professional who has progressed to a senior level (75th percentile).

High-end — Someone very senior and well-paid (90th percentile).

The results also contain salaries from small businesses to large companies, which can also influence salary levels.

Someone working for a large corporation in Gauteng or Cape Town can expect to earn more than someone working for a small enterprise in a small town.

<div
