{"id":58401,"date":"2012-08-29T11:10:29","date_gmt":"2012-08-29T09:10:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=58401"},"modified":"2012-08-29T11:12:32","modified_gmt":"2012-08-29T09:12:32","slug":"new-samsung-dual-sim-phone-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/gadgets\/58401-new-samsung-dual-sim-phone-announced.html","title":{"rendered":"New Samsung dual-SIM phone announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Samsung announced in a press statement today (29 August 2012) that it will introduce the low-cost dual-SIM Samsung Chief Hero to the African market during September.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing the successful launch of our Chief range earlier this year, we have seen that there is a need for mobile phones that suit the unique needs of developing countries and more importantly, Africa,\u201d said Jaco van Zyl, product manager for HHP business group at Samsung Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Samsung said that a significant percentage of mobile phone users in Africa carry multiple SIM cards to take advantage of the different pricing plans on offer from the various operators.<\/p>\n<p>Allowing these users to automatically switch between two SIM cards without having to carry an additional handset, or turn off the phone to swop out a SIM, addresses a critical need, Samsung said.<\/p>\n<p>The Samsung Chief Hero has dual-band GPRS support and claims 11-hour talk time with 550 hours standby time on its 1000mAh battery.<\/p>\n<p>Both SIMs installed in the device are also active with the \u201cDual-SIM Always On\u201d functionality offered by the Chief Hero.<\/p>\n<p>It also includes a 1.8\u201d TFT screen, MP3 support, and an FM Radio.
