However, many report that they haven&#8217;t received a response for months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Calls to the StarSat customer support centre are also going unanswered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frustrated with the lack of information and feedback, StarSat subscribers have taken to the broadcaster&#8217;s Facebook page, particularly the post containing its latest update, to voice their frustration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;StarSat SA can you please reimburse me now? It&#8217;s been months without any subscriptions. I can&#8217;t afford to lose my money. However, he noted that it had restored its signal in other African countries where it operates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;StarSat continues working diligently to relaunch its services. We will announce any changes,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;StarSat would like to thank everyone for their patience.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Icasa, in partnership with law enforcement officials, <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/563236-goodbye-starsat.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/563236-goodbye-starsat.html\">raided the broadcaster&#8217;s headquarters<\/a> in Midrand, Gauteng, on 2 October 2024, disconnecting StarSat&#8217;s South African broadcasts and those to the rest of Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The raid followed StarSat&#8217;s failure to renew its broadcasting licence on time and its subsequent refusal to cease operations as instructed by the regulator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The broadcaster&#8217;s licence expired in July 2023, and it only submitted its application in November of that year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Electronic Communications Act, broadcasters must submit their renewal applications &#8220;no earlier than twelve months and no later than six months prior&#8221; to the licence&#8217;s expiry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, StarSat continued broadcasting in South Africa, prompting the regulator to instruct it to <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/561632-dstv-competitor-ordered-to-shut-its-doors-in-south-africa.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/561632-dstv-competitor-ordered-to-shut-its-doors-in-south-africa.html\">shut down<\/a> by 18 September 2024, which it refused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Icasa explained that there is no mandate to consider renewals for applications that have already expired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Harmse acknowledged that StarSat was late to submit, he argued that the broadcaster had regularly engaged with Icasa and made it aware of its situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We did have a deadline to meet, but because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we couldn&#8217;t get the right investors in, there were shareholder agreements that still needed to be finalised, and we kept communicating the issue to them,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said StarSat had warned Icasa that it would be late to submit if it required all the paperwork at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;So, we did submit late, but we submitted everything we needed to,&#8221; said Harmse.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Angry StarSat customers are demanding answers and refunds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":341076,"featured_media":584270,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[24],"tags":[18090,97226,22273],"class_list":["post-584258","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-broadcasting","tag-independent-communications-authority-of-south-africa-icasa","tag-jan-hendrik-harmse","tag-starsat"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/584258"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/341076"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=584258"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/584258\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":584501,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/584258\/revisions\/584501"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/584270"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=584258"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=584258"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=584258"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
