{"id":5865,"date":"2008-11-05T17:22:00","date_gmt":"2008-11-05T15:22:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2008-11-05T17:22:00","modified_gmt":"2008-11-05T15:22:00","slug":"network-problems","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/5865-network-problems.html","title":{"rendered":"Network problems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Problems on the Telkom-SAIX network caused frustration for many Internet users on Wednesday.&nbsp; The problems started shortly after 14:00 and was still partly unresolved by the time of publication (17:00).<\/p>\n<p><strong>SAIX-Verizon peering problems<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Hetzner peering problems between Verizon Business and SAIX were causing high latency and packet loss on services hosted on the Johannesburg Verizon Business network.&nbsp; A Hetzner network notice indicated that all Johannesburg traffic was being routed via Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p>The Verizon and SAIX engineers were attending to the problem, but no time frame for resolving this problem was available by the time of publication.<\/p>\n<p>Telkom confirmed that a fibre cable break, caused by contractors doing work for another entity,&nbsp;is to blame for the network disruption.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vodacom problems<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to reports from some Vodacom HSDPA subscribers they were also experiencing problems accessing some websites and online services.
