MultiChoice\u2019s eventual switch-over from its current satellite to the new Intelsat\u201320 satellite will affect subscribers in flats or complexes that opted for a single cable DStv installation.<\/p>\n
Previously, a MultiChoice spokesperson explained that they have secured more capacity on IS\u201320 than they have on IS\u20137, and that they plan to launch more services with the additional capacity.<\/p>\n
However, subscribers with what is termed a \u201csingle-cable multi-unit dwelling\u201d installation will not be able to access the new services without an upgrade.<\/p>\n
\u201cComplexes\/flats that have decided to install a single-cable system will continue to get all existing services but will need an installer to change a setting,\u201d MultiChoice explained. \u201cThere will be no additional equipment cost for this.\u201d<\/p>\n
To access the new services, single-cable systems have to be upgraded, with the cost of doing so to be carried by the complex\/flat home owners\u2019 association.<\/p>\n
\u201cComplexes\/flats using MultiChoice\u2019s recommended five-cable system will get all existing and new services without an upgrade,\u201d MultiChoice said.<\/p>\n
The date for the switch from IS\u20137 to IS\u201320 has not been announced yet, but MultiChoice has said that it will be communicated soon and that subscribers do not have to prepare or do anything for the transition.<\/p>\n
Peppered with specific questions about the potential impact of the switch, MultiChoice provided the following answers:<\/p>\n
Q: We\u2019ve heard that any installer who uses a dish smaller than 80cm for HD PVR installations will have their accreditation summarily revoked. Is this correct?<\/strong><\/p>\n A: No, this is incorrect. We do not currently revoke the accreditation for installers using dishes smaller than 90cm for any installation. We continue to recommend a 90cm dish for all installations, whether PVR or not.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Q: Is MultiChoice now considering switching to DVB-S2?<\/strong><\/p>\n A: We are certainly considering switching to DVB-S2, but we need to do it in a way that will have minimum impact and disruption to our customers. There are no immediate plans to make the migration to S2.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Q: Will the switch-over to IS\u201320, or DVB-S2 (if relevant) impact HD PVR subscribers with dishes smaller than 80cm?<\/strong><\/p>\n A: Any DStv customer, PVR or not will be more impacted by rain fade if he\/she does not use a 90cm dish.
