{"id":589607,"date":"2025-04-02T16:01:04","date_gmt":"2025-04-02T14:01:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=589607"},"modified":"2025-04-02T16:06:29","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T14:06:29","slug":"nintendo-switch-2-release-date-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/gaming\/589607-nintendo-switch-2-release-date-announced.html","title":{"rendered":"Nintendo Switch 2 release date announced"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Nintendo will release its new Switch 2 console on 5 June, seeking to keep the no. 1 spot in video-game devices with a new version of the top-selling model it introduced in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">The company\u2019s first entirely new platform in eight years, the Switch 2, has the potential to lift sales for game makers and retailers after what has been a lacklus<\/span>tre\u00a0three years\u00a0for the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consoles in particular are fighting increasingly popular PC games, resulting in a project cuts and staff layoffs throughout the ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Already, many game publishers are lining up some of their best franchises for the new Switch in hopes of winning back players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new console will also support the company\u2019s online gaming services, Nintendo said in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Switch has sold more than&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendo.co.jp\/ir\/en\/finance\/hard_soft\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">146 million units<\/a>&nbsp;so far. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But flagging momentum for the console, launched in 2017, forced Nintendo to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-11-05\/nintendo-sees-bigger-profit-decline-on-faltering-switch-demand\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cut<\/a>&nbsp;its full-year profit and sales forecasts and log its fifth straight quarter of profit declines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consumers have eagerly awaited an announcement on a successor to the Switch, which faces more powerful and modern updates from rivals Sony Group and Microsoft. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beside the features of the new hardware, focus is on Nintendo\u2019s ability to meet demand at the console\u2019s launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Initial sales momentum is a big indicator of how popular a game console will be for its whole life cycle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chip shortages hurt the 2020 launches of Sony\u2019s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft\u2019s Xbox Series X and S models, sapping demand and hurting software sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Robin Zhu, an analyst at Sanford C.
