Managing executive of networks and wholesale at Telkom<\/a>, Bashier Sallie<\/a>, said that they would be charging a different price for their very-high-bit-rate digital subscriber line (VDSL<\/a>) trial services, but stopped short of revealing the price.<\/p>\n

Telkom Group CEO, Nombulelo \u201cPinky\u201d Moholi<\/a>, said in a press briefing ahead of their SATNAC<\/a> event held in George this year (2012) that part of the trial was to test the cost assumptions they had made.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Steven White<\/a>, the managing executive for converged business services at Telkom he said that there is no retail component to the pilot.<\/p>\n

This means that White was not at liberty to discuss pricing, and that questions in this regard are best directed at Sallie.<\/p>\n

White explained that the trial was there to test the technology and get customer feedback to see what improvements can be made.<\/p>\n

However, it will be charged for commercially to test customer acquisition.<\/p>\n

Sallie previously said that Telkom would invite customers from its Internet service provider (ISP) TelkomInternet on a one-on-one basis to participate in the trial.<\/p>\n

This won\u2019t happen at a retail level it seems, with White saying that when there is a retail component all the other ISPs will be informed.<\/p>\n

It won\u2019t take too long to announce what prices are going to be, White said.<\/p>\n
