Every day a new iPhone 5 rumour seems to emerge, and as we edge closer to the launch, let\u2019s wrap up what we know so far about Apple<\/a>\u2019s next iPhone.<\/p>\n

Details surrounding the device have been heating up for the last few months, particularly regarding a larger screen, thinner design and, most importantly, when one can get their hands on the phone.<\/p>\n

Name<\/h3>\n

On 5 September 2012, an alleged photo from the iPhone printing factory leaked<\/a>, showing the packaging reading \u201cThe New iPhone\u201d, leading to expectations that the new phone would drop the numerical designation from its name.<\/p>\n

The photo has been deemed \u201cfake\u201d by some community members, as the invitation to the Apple press event (pictured below) shows a silhouetted “5” created by the “12” date image.<\/p>\n

Release date<\/h3>\n

The big news is expected to break on 12 September 2012 when Apple holds its press meeting. The iPhone is then widely expected to hit store shelves on 21 September 2012, originally reported by iMore<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Screen<\/h3>\n

Sharp is the known supplier of screens for Apple\u2019s next iPhone.<\/p>\n

9to5Mac<\/a> has received word from its sources that the company will launch the device with a 3.999-inch screen (diagonally) with a resolution of 640 x 1136, compared to the existing 640 x 960, 3.5-inch offering found on the iPhone 4S.<\/p>\n

Design<\/h3>\n

New to the iPhone\u2019s design is a 19-pin connector. Originally reported via iLounge<\/a>, the new connector is smaller and more compact.<\/p>\n

Multiple rumours and leaked images continued to back up this claim, adding some weight to expectation of the new dock connector.<\/p>\n

The phone is assumed to have a metal unibody design, similar to that of Apple\u2019s notebooks (9to5Mac<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The phone is expected to be much thinner than that of the iPhone 4S, as The Wall Street Journal<\/a> reported that Sharp<\/a> were developing smaller \u201cin-cell\u201d display panels to help decrease the thickness.<\/p>\n

Specs<\/h3>\n

Reports<\/a> say that the iPhone 5 will have the A5X processor found in the new iPad. It’s also said to have 1 GB of RAM.<\/p>\n

Last week (30 August 2012), French website 9to5Mac then released a leaked image which speculated that the phone may feature a brand new quad-core processor called the A6<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Camera<\/h3>\n

Not much is known about the camera, although it is speculated to be a much-improved 8-megapixel rear camera with a greater aperture (AppleInsider<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Features<\/h3>\n

NFC \u2013 With NFC becoming the feature to have in smartphones today, it\u2019s to be expected that Apple would include an NFC chip in the iPhone 5.<\/p>\n

Contrasting those notions is a report from AnandTech<\/a>, who suspect that the phone will not feature NFC.<\/p>\n

The reason for this being that the metal bacl-plate would block NFC signals, along with the layout and design of the components from leaked images.<\/p>\n

The phone is almost guaranteed to feature 4G LTE support, allowing users to connect to various 4G networks and use LTE to download at significantly higher speeds.<\/p>\n

A new set of apple earphones are also expected to debut with the iPhone 5, after images and a video<\/a> were leaked from a Vietnamese tech site.<\/p>\n
