Vodacom recently unveiled its state-of-the-art datacentre in Midrand, with two more of its kind in the pipeline for Cape Town and Kwazulu-Natal. <\/p>\n
These three datacentres will be connected via a national fibre backbone, creating a very robust and redundant data hosting network for Vodacom Business.<\/p>\n
It is well known that Vodacom is already deploying inner-city fibre networks, but it has up to now not elaborated on its national, inter city fibre plans.<\/p>\n
According to Vodacom Business executive Wally Beelders, the company has partnered with Neotel and MTN for its inter-city network. <\/p>\n
MTN has previously said that it will invest in a national fibre network, and was keen to partner with other companies to achieve its goals. <\/p>\n
It has previously been mentioned by Google SA country manager Stafford Masie that we may find that after the landing of SEACOM, which promises up to a maximum of 1.27 Tbps of international bandwidth, that local infrastructure may become the bandwidth bottleneck rather than the international portion.<\/p>\n
Companies such as Neotel, Dark Fibre Africa, MTN, Vodacom and Telkom have all been rolling out fibre to ensure that they have adequate backhaul capacity to serve their future needs.<\/p>\n
