{"id":600992,"date":"2025-07-02T07:42:02","date_gmt":"2025-07-02T05:42:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=600992"},"modified":"2025-07-02T07:42:07","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T05:42:07","slug":"x-adding-ai-written-community-notes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/600992-x-adding-ai-written-community-notes.html","title":{"rendered":"X adding AI-written community notes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Elon Musk\u2019s X will start to publish Community Notes written by artificial intelligence agents, a move to increase the speed of the social network\u2019s fact-checking product and expand it to reach more people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Developers will soon be able to submit their own AI agents for review by the company. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those AI agents will write a series of practice notes behind the scenes, and if the company deems them helpful, the bot will be deployed to write notes that will appear publicly on the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Humans will still review those AI-generated notes, and the note will only appear if people with a wide variety of viewpoints find them useful, said Keith Coleman, a product executive at X who runs the Community Notes program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s the system in place for notes written by X users. AI notes could start to appear later this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey can help deliver a lot more notes faster with less work, but ultimately the decision on what\u2019s helpful enough to show still comes down to humans,\u201d Coleman said Tuesday in an interview. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo we think that combination is incredibly powerful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are currently hundreds of notes published to X every day, Coleman said, and while he doesn\u2019t have a target for how that might change once AI is involved, there could be a \u201csignificant\u201d increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>X first debuted a crowd-sourced fact-checking program when the company was still known as Twitter, and well before Musk\u2019s 2022 takeover. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But its focus on Community Notes has increased under Musk\u2019s ownership, and has recently been adopted by other companies, including Meta Platforms Inc. and ByteDance\u2019s TikTok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Musk himself has said Community Notes serves as a bulwark against false information, calling it hoax kryptonite, but he is also regularly flagged by the fact-checking process for posting misleading information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this year he also suggested the system could be \u201cgamed by governments &amp; legacy media.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coleman said that other companies adoption of community notes is evidence that it\u2019s the best fact-checking system available. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019s also hopeful that asking humans to review the AI notes before publishing them will create a \u201cfeedback loop\u201d that will improve the bots as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a new feedback cycle,\u201d he said. \u201cThe model can be improved not just by one random human\u2019s feedback, but by feedback from a diverse audience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI agents can be powered by any technology, Coleman said, not just Grok, the bot that was created by Musk\u2019s AI startup xAI.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Developers will soon be able to submit their own AI agents for review by the company. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":341034,"featured_media":600993,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[18],"tags":[11373,90563,405,41650,87831],"class_list":["post-600992","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-internet","tag-elon-musk","tag-grok","tag-twitter","tag-x","tag-xai"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/600992"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/341034"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=600992"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/600992\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":600994,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/600992\/revisions\/600994"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/600993"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=600992"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=600992"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=600992"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
