server software suffers cyberattack"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Microsoft\u2019s server software is under attack from unidentified hackers, with cybersecurity analysts warning of widespread security breaches across the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Redmond, Washington-based software maker&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/msftsecresponse\/status\/1947080327094042624\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>&nbsp;it had released a new security patch for customers to apply to their SharePoint servers \u201cto mitigate active attacks targeting on-premises servers,\u201d adding it was working to roll out others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cisa.gov\/news-events\/alerts\/2025\/07\/20\/microsoft-releases-guidance-exploitation-sharepoint-vulnerability-cve-2025-53770\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>&nbsp;it was aware of the vulnerability, which it said allowed hackers to access file systems and internal configurations, as well as execute code over the network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cybersecurity firms cautioned that a broad section of organisations around the world could be affected by the breach, with Silas Cutler, a researcher at Michigan-based Censys, estimating that more than 10,000 companies with SharePoint servers were at risk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The US had the largest number of those companies, followed by the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Canada, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a dream for ransomware operators, and a lot of attackers are going to be working this weekend as well,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Palo Alto Networks <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Unit42_Intel\/status\/1946654044316905883\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warned<\/a>\u00a0that \u201cthese exploits are real, in-the-wild, and pose a serious threat.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Google Threat Intelligence Group said in an emailed statement it had observed hackers exploiting the vulnerability, adding it allows \u201cpersistent, unauthenticated access and presents a significant risk to affected organisations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Washington Post reported that the breach had affected US federal and state agencies, universities, energy companies and an Asian telecommunications company, citing state officials and private researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Microsoft has faced a series of recent cyberattacks,\u00a0warning\u00a0in March that Chinese hackers were targeting remote management tools and cloud applications in order to spy on a range of companies and organizations in the US and abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cyber Safety Review Board, a White House-mandated group designed to examine major cyberattacks,\u00a0said\u00a0last year that Microsoft\u2019s security culture was \u201cinadequate\u201d following the 2023 hack of the company\u2019s Exchange Online mailboxes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In that incident, hackers breached 22 organisations and hundreds of individuals,
