The MTN Group announced that it expects to introduce seamless roaming across all its 21 operations in Africa and the Middle East within the first half of 2009. This follows the successful commercial launches of the solution in three key operations in the West and Central Africa (WECA) region.
MTN Cameroon, MTN Ghana and MTN Nigeria have already launched the roaming solution and MTN Benin is scheduled to launch before the end of November 2008. <\/p>\n
MTN’s seamless roaming allows pre-paid subscribers travelling between participating countries to recharge or top up their accounts using airtime vouchers from the host or visited country. <\/p>\n
All calls made by the roamer\/traveller will be charged at the local rates of the MTN participating country. This means that the customer will make calls and pay the rates that the locals in the visited country pay, receive free incoming calls and access SMS and other value-added services. The free incoming calls and local calling rates have also been extended to the post-paid subscriber base.<\/p>\n
Says MTN Group Executive Corporate Affairs and Spokesperson, Ms Nozipho January-Bardill: “MTN One World is another effort that underscores our commitment to continually provide service innovations that improve service to our growing subscriber base and meet our customers’ needs.”<\/p>\n
The WECA region vice-president, Mr Christian de Faria says MTN recognizes the growing volume of travellers within the region and believes that MTN One World will offer MTN subscribers an appropriate value proposition. <\/p>\n
“We are offering MTN subscribers free incoming calls whilst roaming in the participating networks and no need for SIM card replacements when travelling within participating MTN operations. We are confident that this convenience will benefit our customers and provide them with a unique MTN experience,” concludes De Faria.<\/p>\n
