Cell C<\/a> and Vodacom<\/a> have recently signed a roaming agreement that will allow Cell C to roam on Vodacom\u2019s 3G network, but it is not certain that Cell C will use this option.<\/p>\n

Cell C CEO Alan Knott-Craig<\/a> explained that they have negotiated a 3G roaming option for areas where Cell C does not have sufficient HSPA+ coverage, but the operator\u2019s growth is such that this option may not be used.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have not yet decided to use that option, as our HSPA+ coverage is of better quality and we are expanding aggressively,\u201d said Knott-Craig.<\/p>\n

The Cell C CEO said that they currently have more than 3000 HSPA+ sites across the country and are currently building between 100 to 150 HSPA+ base stations per month.<\/p>\n

Cell C\u2019s network is still lagging behind Vodacom\u2019s broadband network which is approaching 5,500 3G base stations, of which 75% are 43.2Mbps enabled.<\/p>\n

However, at the current growth rate Cell C is catching up with Vodacom and MTN<\/a>.<\/p>\n
