Internet Solutions<\/a> is still keen on deploying an LTE<\/a> network on the assumption that the spectrum allocation process is equitable and makes commercial sense. This is according to Raj Wanniappa<\/a>, executive of carrier services at Internet Solutions.<\/p>\n

Wanniappa said that Internet Solutions has the necessary building blocks in place for LTE deployment, and the only inhibitor is access to appropriate spectrum.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll service providers would like to see ICASA<\/a> implement a fair and effective spectrum allocation process quickly,\u201d said Wanniappa.<\/p>\n

One of the options for all operators is to partner with a company which has suitable LTE spectrum, which includes iBurst<\/a>, Neotel<\/a>, and Sentech<\/a>, but IS is not keen on this option.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this stage Internet Solutions is not looking at partnering with other providers who have existing spectrum for LTE purposes. It is unlikely that any other service provider currently has adequate spectrum bandwidth to deploy LTE throughout the country in a large scale,\u201d said Wanniappa.<\/p>\n

Internet Solutions is looking to mainly serve corporate clients through an LTE network, but if it invests in a national network, consumer services will form part of their product range.<\/p>\n

\u201cInternet Solutions currently fulfils the requirements of large corporate enterprises in the private and public sectors, local and global carriers (wholesalers), other ISPs and SMMEs. Hence our LTE focus would be to target these market segments,\u201d said Wanniappa.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, the economics of LTE network roll-outs especially if required to be on a national basis may require us to include consumers. Internet Solutions has considered several mechanisms for us to be able to service the consumer market segment should we need to go this route.\u201d<\/p>\n
