DStv<\/a> Mobile has launched a new 7-inch Walka portable TV at an event in Johannesburg today (26 September 2012).<\/p>\n

Dubbed the Walka 7, the device carries a recommended retail price of R899 and is expected to be available at retail stores between 8 October 2012 and 14 October 2012.<\/p>\n

According to DStv Mobile, the device boasts a 6 hour battery life that takes 3\u20134 hours to charge fully. The Walka 7 has a 800×480 resolution screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio.<\/p>\n

The device also features a way to change the aspect ratio depending on the content being watched.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth noting that DStv Mobile broadcasts using the DVB-H standard at a 320×240 resolution, meaning the full display capabilities of the device won\u2019t be exploited.<\/p>\n

The broadcaster explained that it won\u2019t be looking at increasing the quality of broadcasts for the moment as it would mean decreasing the number of channels being broadcast.\u00a0This is due to the physical limitations of the spectrum they have available for mobile TV broadcasting.<\/p>\n

The Walka 7 also features better speakers with a power rating of 2×1.5W than the original Walka, DStv Mobile said.<\/p>\n

The new DVB-H TV does not replace the original Walka, DStv Mobile said, but is aimed at a more indoor, and less mobile use.<\/p>\n
