href="http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/226385-ICASA">ICASA) announced in a press statement today (28 September 2012) that it has extended the closing date for feedback from stakeholders on its draft frequency migration plan and regulations published on 17 August 2012.

ICASA said that the closing date for the submission of written representations by interested persons has been extended from 28 September 2012 to no later than 16h00 on Friday, 12 October 2012.

Amongst other things, the plan proposes to migrate spectrum already assigned to Sentech and WBS (iBurst) in the 2.6GHz frequency band.

This spectrum is highly sought-after by network operators for the roll-out of high speed wireless broadband services such as Long Term Evolution.

The plan also deals with spectrum known as the “digital dividend” which will become available when South Africa completes its migration from analogue to digital broadcasting.

ICASA is operating on the assumption that this migration will be completed by 2015, as recommended by the <a title="International Telecommunications Union"
