Strange pronunciation of \u201cmetres\u201d aside (Siri\u2019s UK voice says meh-tuh), voice-assisted turn-by-turn navigation has become available in South Africa on devices running the latest version of Apple<\/a>\u2019s mobile operating system, iOS<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This is in line with information published on Apple\u2019s website which indicated that turn-by-turn navigation would be available in October 2012.<\/p>\n

Standard maps, satellite imagery, directions, and traffic were all available in South Africa when iOS 6 launched on 19 September.<\/p>\n

Notable absences from the list are support for any Siri-related services (such as local search, directions, and movie or restaurant information), dictation, games, and iTunes content.<\/p>\n

Apple announced in June that iOS 6 would drop Google Maps<\/a> for its own mapping application. It was later discovered that Dutch navigation company TomTom<\/a> was providing the data for Apple\u2019s new Maps app.<\/p>\n
