{"id":61524,"date":"2012-10-06T12:27:47","date_gmt":"2012-10-06T10:27:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=61524"},"modified":"2012-10-08T08:16:46","modified_gmt":"2012-10-08T06:16:46","slug":"browser-wars-stats-for-september-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/61524-browser-wars-stats-for-september-2012.html","title":{"rendered":"Browser Wars: Stats for September 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Google\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/314567-Google\">Google<\/a> <a title=\"Chrome\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/368084-Chrome\">Chrome<\/a> has extended its lead over <a title=\"Mozilla\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/342687-Mozilla-Foundation\">Mozilla<\/a> <a title=\"Firefox\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/220755-Firefox\">Firefox<\/a> in South Africa, while <a title=\"Apple\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/342717-Apple-Inc\">Apple<\/a>\u2019s <a title=\"Safari\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/471644-Safari-(web-browser)\">Safari<\/a> keeps its upward trend, and <a title=\"Microsoft\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/211580-Microsoft\">Microsoft<\/a> <a title=\"Internet Explorer\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/387173-Internet-Explorer\">Internet Explorer<\/a> continues to lose page views, according to the latest browser usage data from <a title=\"StatCounter\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/387185-StatCounter\">StatCounter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Globally, Firefox has taken a sharp dive while Internet Explorer\u2019s decline seems to have slowed, but Chrome remains in the lead with 34.21% of the page views.<\/p>\n<p>Chrome pulled ahead of Internet Explorer (IE) in May 2012 after Microsoft\u2019s browser took a sharp dive from 34.07% share to 32.12%.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Net Applications\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/392961-Net-Applications\">Net Applications<\/a>, a company that runs its own web analytics system, paints a somewhat different picture to StatCounter, however.<\/p>\n<p>According to their stats, Internet Explorer is comfortably in the lead with 53.63% of the global browser market share, followed by Firefox (20.08%), and then Chrome (18.86%).<\/p>\n<p>The disparity between the two analytics companies is attributed to the different way in which they rank browsers: StatCounter measures market share based on raw pageviews, whereas Net Applications uses unique visitors weighted by the number of Internet users in a country.<\/p>\n<div class=\"table-responsive\"><table class=\"table\" style=\"background-color: #f4f4f4; September 2012<\/p><\/div>\n<h3 id=\"mobile\">Mobile browser stats<\/h3>\n<p>With the browser war heating up in the mobile space it\u2019s interesting to look at the statistics available for that as well.<\/p>\n<p>Here StatCounter and NetApplications have differing approaches as well, this time making it impossible to compare their statistics side-by side.<\/p>\n<p>As with their desktop browser stats, Net Applications measures unique visitors weighted by the number of Internet users in a country.
