Afrihost<\/a> will move its ADSL services from Internet Solutions<\/a> to a new custom-built\u00a0network by MTN<\/a>, Afrihost CEO Gian Visser<\/a> announced in an e-mail to subscribers today (10 October 2012). The move will happen on Tuesday, 16 October 2012.<\/p>\n

In August 2012, Afrihost said that it will be moving its ADSL services from Internet Solutions (IS) to MTN, a decision which the company said will help them to \u201cbring the highest quality, best value products to our clients\u201d. This move will affect both Afrihost and Axxess<\/a> clients.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the key things we looked at in offering MTN services was their excellent local and international network redundancy, which will mean better uptime for our clients,\u201d Afrihost director Greg Payne<\/a> previously explained.<\/p>\n

Visser explained that local traffic is spread across multiple points (IPCs) across the country, “so even if there is a catastrophic Telkom<\/a> outage in one area we can divert all traffic within minutes”.\u00a0The new network also uses multiple undersea cables which Visser said will offer unparalleled international speed, stability and reliability.<\/p>\n

If one of the undersea cables has an outage or gets cut, traffic will automatically be diverted across the other cables so users will still be able to access international sites.<\/p>\n

“You probably won’t even know that anything happened,” Visser said.<\/p>\n

Afrihost customers can see in their user control panel on the ISP’s site when they have been moved over to the MTN network.\u00a0Users don’t have to do anything, and Visser said they are aiming to have no disruptions during the switch-over.<\/p>\n
