It is critical for the country\u2019s telecommunications prices to come down according to Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub and Cell C CEO Alan Knott-Craig.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe could kid ourselves that we have reasons for our prices,\u201d Cell C’s Knott-Craig told attendees of a South African Communications Forum breakfast event on Monday (15 October 2012).<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe we do we have good reasons, but the reality is that the prices for telecommunications are simply too high and have to come down,\u201d Knott-Craig said.<\/p>\n

Knott-Craig said that for this to happen, input costs have to come down.<\/p>\n

He said that some of those costs are controlled by carriers themselves and they must drive those down.<\/p>\n

However, some are controlled by the regulator and government and they need to ensure that those costs come down.<\/p>\n

Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub agreed with Knott-Craig, and as a nod to his counterpart added \u201cwe are ready\u201d.<\/p>\n

Joosub said that in addition to driving down input costs, network roll-outs need to be sped up by making valuable spectrum available and speeding up environmental approvals.<\/p>\n
