For that to happen, South Africa must complete its migration to digital broadcasting.

Other spectrum assigned to operators, such as the frequencies in the sought-after 2.6GHz band, is expected to be available for use immediately.

High-demand frequency bands in South Africa have a history of stop-start processes going as far back as 2006.

Many network operators have cited lack of spectrum as the biggest obstacle to the roll-out of high speed wireless broadband technologies such as LTE.

Dina Pule

Related articles

ICASA’s WiMax decisions raise concern

ICASA reveals plans for spectrum assignment

Will LTE spectrum be wasted?

Broadband spectrum licensing delayed, again

LTE spectrum for SA: SNAFU

Frequency migration comments deadline extended

The Minister of Communications is almost ready to tell industry what’s happening with high-demand spectrum

[13
237,6002,35,2490,4490,9507,4494
post-62290","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-wireless","tag-department-of-communications","tag-dina-pule","tag-headline","tag-lte","tag-spectrum","tag-spectrum-assignment","tag-spectrum-licensing
