Samsung Electronics unveiled its 2026 home theatre lineup, aiming to cement its position as the leading TV maker amid intensifying\u00a0<\/strong>competition and what it described as a\u00a0shift toward jumbo televisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company\u2019s latest LCD-based 4K televisions make use of\u00a0new display backlighting technology to reproduce a wider range of colours than previous models could manage, it said in a statement Sunday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samsung is also debuting its next series of high-end\u00a0<\/strong>OLED TVs as it continues chipping away at\u00a0LG Electronics’s position as the leading global brand in that category, which offers deeper blacks and punchier contrast than LCDs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of Samsung\u2019s\u00a0new televisions are larger than what was once considered standard, with a few measuring around or above 100 inches.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSuper big screens continue to be the fastest-growing TV segment and the market is expected to double in 2026,\u201d the company told reporters last month ahead of Sunday\u2019s announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samsung unveiled the\u00a0lineup at an event\u00a0in Las Vegas for the CES technology conference, where most major TV makers will also be showing off their next-generation products this week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The South Korean company already revealed a portion of its CES lineup late last month, including new\u00a0Wi-Fi-enabled speakers<\/a>\u00a0with bold designs that set up the brand to\u00a0compete more directly with\u00a0Sonos Inc.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In what\u2019s certain to be a prevailing trend at CES, Samsung is hyping a technology known as Micro RGB, which rejiggers the backlighting system in LCD TVs to improve colour accuracy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTypical LCDs rely on either a white or blue backlight, limiting colour purity and realism,\u201d the company said in the media briefing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSamsung Micro RGB employs an entirely new structure with individual red, green and blue backlights that are smaller in size,\u201d it added, claiming that the tweak meaningfully improves color reproduction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samsung introduced\u00a0a 115-inch Micro RGB TV<\/a>\u00a0in September, but its $30,000 price is well outside most consumers\u2019 budgets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For 2026, the company is bringing the same display technology to smaller sizes ranging between 55 inches and an enormous 130-inch set\u00a0\u2014\u00a0though it\u2019s not sharing pricing\u00a0yet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of them are still destined to cost significantly more than Samsung\u2019s more mainstream OLED sets and \u201cNeo QLED\u201d\u00a0models, which use conventional Mini LED backlighting.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For many home theatre enthusiasts, OLED TVs are still unrivalled when it comes to black levels and contrast, since each individual pixel can be shut off for dark scenes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samsung returned to the OLED segment in 2022 after many years of focusing\u00a0exclusively on LCD sets \u2014\u00a0a move that ratcheted up competition with LG, the long-running leader in the OLED category. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samsung\u00a0has tried to differentiate from its Korean rival with what it calls \u201cGlare Free\u201d displays that dramatically reduce reflections\u00a0and \u201cquantum dot\u201d OLED panels manufactured by Samsung Display, which allow colours to remain lush even at peak brightness.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For 2026, Samsung made some minor exterior design changes to its latest flagship OLED model, the S95H OLED.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s also once again\u00a0dialled up the brightness over the previous generation\u00a0\u2014\u00a0this time by 35%, it said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This has been a recent area of focus for TV makers: Even a few years ago, premium OLED televisions generally weren\u2019t bright enough for sunny rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the step-down S90H series now includes\u00a0a\u00a0low-glare\u00a0screen and has 15% improved brightness, according to Samsung.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Artificial intelligence\u00a0will continue to play a key role across Samsung-branded TVs: Like last year\u2019s models, the new sets will be compatible with\u00a0multiple AI agents \u2014\u00a0assistants that can help users find something to watch, summarise past episodes, plan a weekend getaway or answer random questions.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That includes Samsung\u2019s own\u00a0Bixby assistant, plus\u00a0rival offerings from Microsoft Corp. and Perplexity AI Inc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samsung is also continuing to expand on software features that automatically adjust picture and sound settings without making consumers delve into advanced menus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, a new AI Sound Controller tool\u00a0will let users independently adjust the volume of dialogue, music\u00a0or sound effects on this year\u2019s TVs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samsung also announced some\u00a0tweaks to The Frame, its wall art-style TV, and the higher-priced Frame Pro that first debuted at last year\u2019s CES. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neither introduces any notable image quality upgrades this year, even as the company faces a growing wave of competition\u00a0that now includes LG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, Samsung is dramatically up-sizing\u00a0The Frame with a new 98-inch version. The standard Frame will also now have its HDMI inputs and other hardware built directly into the TV set. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
