{"id":62520,"date":"2012-10-19T10:00:40","date_gmt":"2012-10-19T08:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=62520"},"modified":"2012-10-19T13:04:35","modified_gmt":"2012-10-19T11:04:35","slug":"vodacom-lte-speed-boost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/62520-vodacom-lte-speed-boost.html","title":{"rendered":"Vodacom LTE speed boost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Vodacom\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/227063-Vodacom\">Vodacom<\/a> has started to upgrade its <a title=\"LTE\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/367212-Long-term-Evolution-(LTE)\">LTE<\/a> network to support MIMO (<a title=\"multiple-input and multiple-output\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/475430-MIMO\">multiple-input and multiple-output<\/a>) instead of the initial SISO (<a title=\"single-input and single-output\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/475432-SISO\">single-input and single-output<\/a>) setup.<\/p>\n<p>MIMO refers to the use of multiple antennas for the transmitter and the receiver, which significantly boosts the end-user performance on mobile networks.<\/p>\n<p>Vodacom launched their commercial LTE service at the 2012 MyBroadband Conference on 10 October, and at the time the company had 70 live LTE sites. A week later and this number has now grown to over 100 sites.<\/p>\n<p>Vodacom said that they are currently planning to upgrade around 70% of their LTE network to support MIMO. The upgrade, Vodacom explained, requires a hardware swap at each LTE enabled base station.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe LTE rollout will continue into next year.
