{"id":6273,"date":"2008-12-08T13:57:00","date_gmt":"2008-12-08T11:57:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2008-12-08T13:57:00","modified_gmt":"2008-12-08T11:57:00","slug":"xbox360-prices-to-skyrocket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/gaming\/6273-xbox360-prices-to-skyrocket.html","title":{"rendered":"Xbox360 prices to skyrocket"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week MyBroadband had the pleasure of publishing an <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/Gaming\/6208.html\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> telling how the Xbox360 costs about 13% less in SA than it does in the USA. <\/p>\n<p>Now, just a week after publishing the article, news has surfaced that hefty Xbox360 price hikes are imminent. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.xboxgaming.co.za\/news\/major-xbox-price-increase-for-south-africans\/\" target=\"_blank\">Xboxgaming.co.za<\/a> reported on Friday that we can expect an increase of between 30-40% on the console as well as the games.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Xbox 360 Arcade will jump from R1800 to R2500<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Xbox 360 Pro 60GB will jump from R2700 to R3800<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Xbox 360 Elite will jump from R3500 to R5000<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, AAA games can be expected to rise to around R1000 per copy.<\/p>\n<p>This is a real pity, as we were just recently praising Microsoft for sticking to such low console prices despite the weakened rand and global economic downturn. <\/p>\n<p>Microsoft was not able to comment at the time of publication, but it would seem that the devalued Rand is finally catching up with local console pricing.<\/p>\n<p>The new prices will make the Xbox 360 console range significantly more expensive than its equivalent USA pricing.<\/p>\n<p>The Xbox 360 Elite will now be more expensive than the PS3 40GB, and just R200 cheaper than the PS3 80Gb which includes 2 games. <\/p>\n<p>A Sony representative commented that there is no foreseeable change in the PS3&rsquo;s local pricing, and that prices are likely to remain constant for at least the next 6 months.<\/p>\n<p>For anyone looking to purchase an Xbox360, it is strongly advised that they do so soon.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php?t=149478\">XBox360 pricing discussion <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Local currency devaluation finally hits the Xbox360<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-6273","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-gaming"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6273"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/10"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=6273"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6273\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=6273"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=6273"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=6273"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
