{"id":627424,"date":"2026-02-02T12:29:52","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T10:29:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=627424"},"modified":"2026-02-02T12:40:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T10:40:09","slug":"checkers-making-a-killing-with-sixty60","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/it-services\/627424-checkers-making-a-killing-with-sixty60.html","title":{"rendered":"Checkers making a killing with Sixty60"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Checkers-owner Shoprite Holdings has released an operational update for the six months ended 28 December 2025, revealing strong year-on-year growth in on-demand e-commerce sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shoprite recorded 34.6% year-over-year sales growth through the Sixty60 platform during the period, contributing to the company&#8217;s overall 7.1% sales growth in the supermarkets segment in South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Checkers Sixty60&#8217;s sales growth over the six months ended 28 December 2025 was slightly slower year-on-year, following an increase of 47.1% in the same period last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shoprite currently offers on-demand delivery from 694 locations in South Africa, up from 539 stores in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company recently shared its plans to further expand its general merchandise selection on Checkers Sixty60 with MyBroadband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We will continue to evolve the Checkers Sixty60 service to enhance convenience, increase value, and remove friction from our customers,&#8221; Shoprite said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Areas of growth include further expanding the general merchandise selection on Sixty60, growing our speciality pet food delivery offering, and increasing our presence in the health and wellness category.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The service is facing increased competition in South Africa, with Walmart launching its first stores in the country and offering on-demand delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asked about the entry of potential competitors like Walmart, Shoprite said it welcomes competition in the retail and on-demand delivery spaces as &#8220;it ultimately benefits consumers&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The retailer said value remains critical to its business.
