href="http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/378758-Incredible-Connection">Incredible Connection will sell the Windows 8 Pro upgrade at a launch price of R699.95, a spokesperson has told MyBroadband.

Incredible Connection will not stock stand-alone editions of the latest edition of the Microsoft Windows operating system, the retailer explained.

This news comes after Microsoft SA said that the approximate recommended retail price in South Africa for Windows 8 is R700.

Microsoft emphasised at the time that the price was just an estimate and is highly dependent on a variety of external factors, such as the exchange rate.

Windows 7, Vista, and XP users will be able to upgrade to Windows 8, according to Microsoft, which detailed the upgrade paths available to Windows 8 on its TechNet website.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" Starter, Home Basic, and Home Premium users will be able to upgrade to either Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro.

Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate users will only be able to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro.

In both upgrade cases users can choose to keep their Windows settings, personal files, and applications, Microsoft said.

Windows Vista, and Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 can elect to keep their settings and personal files, but not applications.

Windows XP users need to have Service Pack 3 or later installed and can only elect to keep their personal files.

Should you be willing to eschew the physical DVD set to come with the boxed copy of the Windows 8 Pro upgrade, a downloadable version of the upgrade will be available at around half the price directly from Microsoft.

Group lead for Windows at Microsoft SA, Colin Erasmus, explained earlier this year that South Africans would be able to buy the upgrade to Windows 8 from the Microsoft online store in US Dollars on launch day.

This lets users of the older versions of Windows upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $39.99 (around R350 at the time of writing) using their South African credit card, Erasmus said.

Microsoft also previously announced another upgrade option of $14.99 for those who buy new PCs bundled with Windows 7 between 2 June 2012 and 31 January 2013.

Related articles

<a title="Windows 8 SA
