X, formerly Twitter, is offline with users worldwide reporting that they are unable to access the social media platform, and reports of issues started spiking at around 15:00 on Monday, 16 February 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trying to access the platform via a web browser in South Africa only loads a blank page with the X logo, and while the mobile app shows some posts, it won’t load new ones or update feeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports of the issues reached nearly 400 on Downdetector’s South African website, while reports quickly spiked to almost 42,000 on its US site, and 11,500 on its UK site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MyBroadband also looked at Downdetector’s websites for other regions, all of which showed a spike in reports of issues starting at around the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Is it just me or is Twitter\/X is down right now?” one impacted user said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Is X really down lol?” another said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is unclear what has caused the outage. The platform suffered a similar outage in March 2025, when users worldwide were unable to access it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

X confirmed the issues in a post on a status page following the outage, saying it experienced a site-wide disruption that also impacted data pipelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly to the current issues, posts wouldn’t load for users in many parts of the world. However, this occurred at three different times during the day, with the first two outages lasting just a few minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, several users in South Africa reported that X was still not working for them 30 minutes after the third outage started sometime after 18:00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elon Musk acquired Twitter in 2022 and renamed it to X. The usually vocal owner didn’t mention the outage on his personal profile when it happened last March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, earlier in the day, he had posted that X was “the top source for news on Earth.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A representative from X didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment following the outage on Monday, 16 February 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
