{"id":630002,"date":"2026-02-20T10:30:20","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T08:30:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=630002"},"modified":"2026-02-20T13:48:40","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T11:48:40","slug":"playstation-game-studio-shut-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/gaming\/630002-playstation-game-studio-shut-down.html","title":{"rendered":"PlayStation game studio shut down"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sony Group is shutting down Bluepoint Games, the PlayStation subsidiary responsible for developing remakes of video games such as\u00a0<em>Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roughly 70 employees will lose their jobs amid the studio closure, a PlayStation&nbsp;spokesperson said, writing in a statement that the decision was made \u201cfollowing a recent business review.\u201d Bluepoint will officially shutter next month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community,\u201d\u00a0the spokesperson said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe thank them for their passion, creativity\u00a0and craftmanship.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 2006, the Austin-based studio was known for developing high-end remakes of older games, such as\u00a0<em>Uncharted\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Shadow of the Colossus\u00a0<\/em>for modern platforms.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sony acquired Bluepoint in 2021, shortly after the successful release of\u00a0<em>Demon\u2019s Souls\u00a0<\/em>on PlayStation 5, and tasked it with co-developing 2022\u2019s\u00a0<em>God of War Ragnarok<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following that game, Bluepoint began working on a \u201clive-service\u201d\u00a0<em>God of War<\/em>\u00a0game, Bloomberg previously reported. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it was\u00a0canceled in January 2025.
