It is a multi-functional technology hub designed to support residents through a range of innovative features,&#8221; the City of Johannesburg said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These features include high-speed 4G and 5G connectivity with free public Wi-Fi access, energy-efficient LED lighting, integrated CCTV surveillance, and an emergency panic button system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The infrastructure is also future-ready, allowing for the integration of Internet of Things technologies and environmental monitoring systems,&#8221; the metro added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The municipality said the project forms part of its broader commitment to digital inclusion, improved service delivery, and developing safer, smarter communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to City of Johannesburg MMC for transport, Kenny Kunene, the initiative will bring tangible benefits to the residents of Slovo Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;With the activation of these smart poles, residents will experience improved visibility at night, enhanced safety measures, and greater access to online government services, educational platforms, and communication,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Our goal is to ensure that no community is left behind in the digital age.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kunene will attend the launch, set to start at 10:00 on Saturday, 7 March 2026, on Cavendish Street in Nancefield, alongside MMC for Human Settlements, Mlungisi Mabaso.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the CEO of the City of Johannesburg&#8217;s Metropolitan Tech Company, Thedi Moropa, the initial rollout represents an important milestone for Johannesburg&#8217;s smart city journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The Smart Pole infrastructure has been designed to be scalable and adaptable, enabling the future deployment of environmental sensors and additional smart city capabilities,&#8221; the city said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rollout aligns with the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Tech Company&#8217;s goal of reducing the cost of telecommunications and enhancing connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Our mission is to reduce the cost of telecommunications.
