Honor launched the Magic8 Pro in December 2025, and Samsung announced the Galaxy S26 Ultra in February 2026.

MyBroadband compared the three top-specced smartphones from each brand in terms of their performance, display, camera, battery, and charging specs.

Regarding display specifications, the Honor Magic8 Pro has the smallest display of the three at 6.71 inches, compared with the Galaxy S26 Ultra and iPhone 17 Pro Max’s 6.9-inch displays.

The Magic8 Pro’s OLED boasts a 2,808 x 1,256-pixel resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate. This resolution is lower than that of the S26 Ultra and iPhone 17 Pro Max, but it beats the latter regarding pixels per inch (ppi).

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra’s 6.9-inch 3,120 x 1,440-pixel OLED offers 498 ppi, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s 6.9-inch 2,868 x 1,320-pixel OLED offers 457 ppi.

In comparison, the Honor Magic8 Pro’s display offers 458 ppi, beating the iPhone 17 Pro Max by one pixel per inch. It beats both competitors by a long shot regarding display brightness.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra’s display reaches 2,600 nits, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s display peaks at 3,000 nits.

The Honor Magic8 Pro’s display doubles the iPhone’s peak brightness, achieving 6,000 nits.

“With peak brightness reaching up to 6,000 nits, the display is designed to remain clearly visible even under strong sunlight, a practical advantage in GCC markets where outdoor use is common,” Honor said.

Regarding performance, the iPhone 17 Pro Max packs Apple’s A19 Pro chip, paired with 12GB of RAM. In comparison, the Honor Magic8 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip.

It should be noted that the Magic8 Pro and Galaxy S26 Ultra use slightly different chip variants, with the S26 Ultra’s chip designed specifically for Samsung.

According to NanoReview, the Qualcomm chip has two more cores than the A19 Pro and achieved better overall performance in AnTuTu benchmark tests.

However, the A19 Pro offers a higher graphics processing unit frequency and a higher CPU clock speed at 4,260MHz compared to 3,800MHz in the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The A19 Pro also offers higher power efficiency.

In the Honor Magic8 Pro, the processor is paired with 12GB of RAM, while the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is available with either 12GB or 16GB of RAM, depending on the storage configuration.

The 256GB and 512GB variants of the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra both feature 12GB of RAM, while the 1TB model has 16GB.

The Honor Magic8 Pro is only available with 512GB of storage in South Africa, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max offers storage configurations ranging from 256GB to 2TB.

<h2 specs, the Honor Magic8 Pro features a triple rear camera system with a 50-megapixel (MP) primary shooter, a 200MP periscope telephoto sensor, and a 50MP ultrawide camera.

The device centres its camera system around a large 1/1.3-inch primary sensor, offering an optimal balance between sensor size and light-gathering capability.

These camera specs enable the Honor Magic8 Pro to record 1080p video at up to 240 frames per second (fps), and 4K video at up to 120fps.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max also has a triple rear camera system, with three 48MP sensors, including a wide-angle camera, a periscope telephoto shooter, and an ultrawide sensor.

The Apple flagship can record 1080p video at up to 240fps and 4K video at up to 120fps.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra features a quad rear camera system, comprising a 200MP primary wide shooter, a 50MP periscope telephoto camera, a 50MP ultrawide sensor, and a 10MP telephoto camera.

The S26 Ultra can record 1080p video at up to 240fps, 4K video at up to 120fps, and 8K video at up to 30fps.

Despite the S26 Ultra’s superior video recording capabilities, it scored the lowest of the three in DxOMark’s smartphone camera ratings.

The S26 Ultra scored 157 in DxOMark’s testing, ranking its camera system 18th among smartphone cameras.

In comparison, the Honor Magic8 Pro scored 164 and placed eighth, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s cameras scored 168 and placed third overall.

Regarding zoom capabilities, the iPhone 17 Pro Max offers the overall best video zoom.

However, it doesn’t compete quite on the same level as the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and Honor Magic8 Pro when it comes to photo zoom.

While the S26 Ultra emphasises framing flexibility and vivid imagery, the Magic8 Pro combines its high-resolution telephoto lens with CIPA 6.5 stabilisation to maintain composure, clarity, and reduced noise as magnification increases.

Battery, charging, and pricing

<figure has been close regarding some of the devices’ specifications, the Honor Magic8 Pro wins hands-down regarding battery and charging specs.

At 7,100mAh, its battery capacity is 2,277mAh greater than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and 2,100mAh greater than the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.

The Honor Magic8 Pro also offers the best wired and wireless charging speeds at up to 100W and 80W, respectively.

In comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro Max supports a maximum wired charging wattage of 40W, while its wireless charging peaks at 25W.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra’s charging specs are a bit better than the iPhone’s, with 60W fast wired charging and 25W fast wireless charging.

Regarding pricing, the Honor Magic8 Pro has a recommended retail price of R27,999, while the S26 Ultra and iPhone 17 Pro Max both start at R30,999.

The table below lists specifications for the Honor Magic8 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S26
