Stats SA<\/a> released the results of its Census 2011 today (30 October 2012), showing that less that half of South African households have access to the Internet.<\/p>\n

The Census 2011 document shows there were 51,770,560 people in the country at midnight on 9 October 2011, the date of the 2011 Census, compared to 44,819,778 counted a decade earlier.<\/p>\n

The results further showed that 64.8% of households in South Africa had no access to the Internet.<\/p>\n

Of those households that had access to the Internet, 16.3% accessed it via cellphone, 8.6% from home, 5.6% from elsewhere and 4.7% from work.<\/p>\n
