LG<\/a> will not be bringing the newly announced Nexus 4 smartphone to South Africa, a Virgin Mobile<\/a> spokesperson recently told MyBroadband.<\/p>\n

The Nexus 4 is the latest smartphone in Google<\/a>\u2019s Nexus range of Android devices, for which the search giant teamed up with Korean electronics maker, LG.<\/p>\n

Google enlisted the help of HTC<\/a> and Samsung<\/a> to build previous Nexus smartphones, and more recently partnered with Asus<\/a> and Samsung to develop Nexus tablet PCs.<\/p>\n

In South Africa, the local offices of manufacturers typically handled distribution of their Nexus devices, with Asus SA bringing in the Nexus 7, and Samsung SA the Galaxy Nexus.<\/p>\n

It is understood that LG decided against bringing in the Nexus 4 because they don\u2019t think it would sell well in South Africa.<\/p>\n

Instead it is believed that the company will be focussing on a device with very similar specifications to the Nexus 4, the LG Optimus G, which LG has already said would launch in South Africa during February 2013.<\/p>\n

As LG didn\u2019t respond to queries about its plans for the Nexus 4 in South Africa, at this stage it doesn\u2019t look like the device will be making it to our shores unless network operators bring it in on their own.<\/p>\n

A Vodacom<\/a> spokesperson said that they don\u2019t have information on the roll out of this device at this stage. 8ta<\/a>, Cell C<\/a>, and MTN<\/a> did not respond by the time of publication.<\/p>\n
