AirFibre is still available as a Supersonic product.

The new catalogue builds on previous SuperSonic products, offering high-quality Wi-Fi Internet connections that can match fibre-like speeds, with the fastest new product hitting 300Mbps.

The company initially launched the product in May 2021, promising uncapped data packages with fibre-like reliability and high speeds. It uses Gigabit 1 (G1) radio systems to connect customers.

The benefit of AirFibre is that it can be installed and begin providing Internet connectivity with quick turnaround times. No digging or trenching needed to install fibre infrastructure.

“MTN AirFibre brings fast, fibre‑like speeds to communities where traditional fibre is not yet available, making connectivity accessible,” said Ernst Fonternel, MTN chief consumer officer for postpaid and home.

Three new packages have been launched under the new branding: MTN AirFibre 80, 150 and 300, each representing a faster download speed.

MTN AirFibre 80 offers 80 Mbps download and 25 Mbps upload speeds, and is priced at R499 per month. The middle-ground MTN AirFibre 150 offers 150 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload at R699 per month.

The fastest and most expensive is the 300 package, with 300Mbps download and 100Mbps upload speeds, at R899 per month, offering speeds comparable to many fibre Internet products in South Africa.

In fact, MTN has increased speeds and cut prices for its fastest tier, which was previously 200Mbps for R1,099 per month for SuperSonic.

In March 2025, MTN SuperSonic was the only product with prices and speeds that matched those of fixed-LTE and fixed-5G connections in South Africa.

More than 3 million homes nationwide can take advantage of AirFibre’s offers across suburbs, estates, and underserved areas, following an extensive network investment, the company said in its announcement.

“By deploying a state-of-the-art network exclusively dedicated to high-speed Internet, MTN is able to extend coverage into areas not yet reached by fibre networks,” it explained.

“The technology connects each home via a compact outdoor receiver (approximately the size of an A3 page), after which the customer’s router distributes the Wi-Fi signal seamlessly throughout the household.”

MTN stated that many 4G and entry-level 5G home Internet packages offer speeds of 15-60 Mbps at the same price as the new packages.

AirFibre also won’t charge upfront installation fees during a promotional period following the launch, which runs until 26 May 2026. The outdoor receiver and Wi-Fi router are also free-to-use.

MTN charges users who cancel the service within the first 12 months after installation. Cancelling 12 months after installation will not incur any penalty payments.

New MTN AirFibre prices and speeds compared

Package

New Packages

Old Packages

Speed (Download/Upload)

Price

Speed (Download/Upload)

Price

AirFibre entry

80Mbps/25Mbps

R499pm

50Mbps/10Mbps

R799

AirFibre mid

150Mbps/50Mbps

R699pm

100Mbps/20Mbps

R946

AirFibre top

300Mbps/100Mbps

R899pm

200Mbps/40Mbps

R1,099

MTN has relaunched its AirFibre offerings with better prices and faster speeds compared to last year.

[4,13
74942,887,42,104078,19188,53737,749
post-636463","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-broadband","category-wireless","tag-ernst-fonternel","tag-fibre-1","tag-mtn","tag-mtn-airfibre","tag-mtn-south-africa","tag-mtn-supersonic","tag-wi-fi
