he said. “This leads to increased complexity and higher maintenance overheads for IT teams.”

Tarsus Distribution is a distributor of the HPE ProLiant Gen12 compute platform, which can help businesses consolidate workloads while improving control and operational efficiency.

The latest generation of the platform offers businesses an opportunity to reduce their physical footprint in data centres by replacing multiple legacy systems with fewer, more powerful servers.

That is particularly critical as businesses navigate a combination of data-intensive applications, virtualised environments, and increased hybrid cloud and AI workload demands.

Older infrastructure often struggles to meet the demands of these tasks, resulting in performance bottlenecks.

Moreover, migrating to newer hardware removes the growing maintenance costs associated with older hardware.

Aside from performance gains, migrating to HPE ProLiant Gen12 servers helps address two primary concerns for South African data centres: energy consumption and hardware-level security.

Electricity prices in South Africa continue to rise, while localised power outages and demand reduction mechanisms like load reduction can place strain on data centres’ backup power systems.

Older systems exacerbate these issues by consuming significantly more power while delivering lower compute performance than modern systems.

Consolidating workloads on newer generation servers can reduce the number of systems needed in a data centre. “That immediately lowers power consumption and cooling requirements,” Swart said.

The HPE ProLiant Gen12 architecture is designed to deliver higher performance per watt, enabling higher compute loads while helping businesses stay within their budgets.

Hardware-level security and management

HPE ProLiant Compute DL384 Gen12

HPE’s ProLiant Gen12 platform also embeds protection directly into hardware through its Silicon Root of Trust technology, which uses a digital fingerprint to verify integrity.

Cyber threats are becoming more sophisticated, and South African businesses may find that traditional software-based security is no longer sufficient.

Tarsus warned that these threats increasingly target firmware, making vulnerabilities harder to detect and enabling malicious actors to exploit them to access sensitive data.

“Security must start at the hardware layer,” Swart said, adding that the Silicon Root of Trust technology ensured the server boots only if the firmware is verified as authentic and untampered.

That helps keep sensitive data protected and supports businesses in regulated industries in maintaining compliance with local laws, such as the Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act.

These protections work together with HPE’s Integrated Lights-Out management platform, which provides administrators with extensive oversight and remote control over their server fleet.

Furthermore, HPE’s Compute Operations Manager simplifies management by enabling centralised monitoring and automation across multiple locations.

These tools enable IT teams to automate tasks like provisioning, configuration, and updates, ultimately reducing manual workloads and the risk of human error.

Many South African businesses are still running critical workloads on outdated, power-hungry hardware that struggles to support modern applications and lacks protection against firmware-level threats.

[25,15
15227,104611,22807,104610,104550,104612,92451,52339,104551,34107,65950
post-641072","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-cloud-hosting","category-hardware","tag-cybersecurity","tag-data-centre-power-consumption","tag-data-centres","tag-hewlett-packard-enterprise-hpe","tag-hpe-proliant-gen12","tag-hpe-silicon-root-of-trust","tag-ict-distributors","tag-power-consumption","tag-riaan-swart","tag-tarsus","tag-tarsus-distribution
