The prices for new customers have already changed on Afrihost’s website.

“You deserve to have the best experience possible, and this change will help make sure we can keep your Pure Internet Joy flowing,” Afrihost said.

“We promise you that we will never, ever rest in our quest to give you the absolute best internet in South Africa.”

Both Afrihost’s uncapped and capped Pure Wireless Internet prices are affected by the changes. Customers on a capped package will get more anytime data from 1 June.

“Please note that all data will now be classified as anytime data. There will no longer be a split between your nighttime and anytime data moving forward,” it stated.

Afrihost’s Pure Wireless products run on MTN’s network. MTN implemented price increases across its postpaid and month-to-month product lines on 1 February 2026.

MTN said the price adjustments led to an average 9.7% increase in subscription fees. In addition to the adjustment in subscription fees, MTN said there would also be an 8% average increase in voice rates.

Other components, such as device fees, insurance fees, value-added service fees, out-of-bundle data rates, and add-on voice, SMS, and data bundle prices, will remain unchanged.

MTN stated that, overall, this will result in an average bill increase of 5.4% across its contract subscriber base.

The average inflation rate for 2025 was 3.2% — the lowest rate in 21 years, according to Stats SA.

“Although general consumer inflation has eased, MTN and the telecommunication sector in South Africa continue to face steeper increases in operational costs,” the network operator said.

This was driven by electricity price increases and measures to protect and restore network infrastructure from vandalism.

“These factors, together with our ongoing investment in network resilience and capacity, have made the price adjustments essential to maintain our network and deliver superior connectivity for customers.”

MTN said the price adjustments were necessary to sustain its ongoing investment in network expansion, infrastructure resilience, and customer experience.

Afrihost Pure Wireless Internet price increases

ZTE G5TS router, which Afrihost provides for its fixed wireless access products

MyBroadband analysed Afrihost’s price increases for its Pure Wireless Internet products, which will kick in on 1 June 2026, and found they ranged from 5% to 20%.

Its Wireless Plus package, which offers unrestricted speeds below a set monthly usage threshold, will rise from R949 to R999 per month — a 5% increase.

Wireless Plus is subject to a monthly threshold of 1TB. Once you’ve reached your monthly data limit, the connection speed is limited to 4Mbps for the remainder of the month.

There are intermediate thresholds, too. Once customers reach 250GB of usage, their connection speeds will be limited to 50 Mbps for the remainder of the month.

After that, when they reach 500GB of usage, their connection speed will be limited to 20Mbps for the remainder of the month.

Afrihost Pure Wireless Internet customers with 100Mbps uncapped and 10GB capped products will see the largest proportional increases to their monthly subscription fees.

Uncapped 100Mbps subscribers will see their monthly fee swell from R599 to R693 — a 15.7% increase.

Capped 10GB customers will see a 20% increase, from R49 to R59 per month.
