Tesla generated more than half a billion dollars in revenue last year from selling products to two of Elon Musk\u2019s other companies, the carmaker disclosed in an amended annual filing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The bulk of the sales \u2014 about $430.1 million \u2014 came from doing business with xAI, Musk\u2019s artificial intelligence startup, Tesla first\u00a0disclosed<\/a>\u00a0in January. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In an\u00a0amended filing<\/a>\u00a0uploaded Thursday, the automaker added that it also recognised another $143.3 million in revenue from the billionaire\u2019s closely held rocket manufacturer SpaceX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tesla didn\u2019t provide the latter figure in its initial annual filing released in January. The combined revenue from sales to xAI and SpaceX worked out to $573.4 million (R9.57 billion).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Earlier this month, Bloomberg News reported that SpaceX likely had purchased more than $100 million worth of Cybertrucks, the company\u2019s slow-selling electric pickup, in the fourth quarter of last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Musk\u2019s companies have\u00a0long been intertwined<\/a>\u00a0through financial investments, business agreements and shared personnel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n xAI purchases Megapack energy storage batteries from Tesla, while the car company has integrated xAI\u2019s Grok chatbot into its vehicles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
