{"id":645362,"date":"2026-05-06T14:59:06","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T12:59:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=645362"},"modified":"2026-05-06T15:02:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T13:02:13","slug":"eskoms-new-monthly-minimum-salary-is-r19768","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/energy\/645362-eskoms-new-monthly-minimum-salary-is-r19768.html","title":{"rendered":"Eskom&#8217;s new monthly minimum salary is R19,768"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The lowest-paid unionised Eskom workers should be earning a starting salary of R19,768 per month from July 2026, calculations by MyBroadband showed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eskom and two of its workers&#8217; biggest labour unions recently announced the signing of a multi-year salary deal that will see their remuneration increase by 7% annually over the next three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This increase applied to Eskom&#8217;s bargaining unit, which accounted for more than two-thirds of the power utility&#8217;s workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These workers include basic labourers and artisans as well as more experienced and skilled engineers and technicians. Middle management, executives, and board members are not part of this cohort. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Eskom has not shared details about the remuneration of its bargaining unit, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneyweb.co.za\/news\/south-africa\/what-eskom-workers-really-earn\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.moneyweb.co.za\/news\/south-africa\/what-eskom-workers-really-earn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Moneyweb previously obtained a breakdown<\/a> of these salaries from wage negotiations in early 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That included the minimum, midpoint, and maximum salaries of workers across 10 pay grades in the bargaining unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bargaining unit salary adjustments are implemented in July of each year. Between July 2017 and June 2018, those on the lowest T04 paygrade earned R135,390 per year or R11,282.50 per month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most skilled engineers and technicians on the highest T13\/P13 paygrade received R595,410 per year \u2014 or roughly R49,618 per month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MyBroadband <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/energy\/615154-eskoms-minimum-salary-is-r18475-per-month.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/energy\/615154-eskoms-minimum-salary-is-r18475-per-month.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">previously used<\/a> these salaries as a starting point and calculated that the entry-level monthly salary had risen to R18,475 per month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The top-earning bargaining unit members were bagging R81,248 per month. Between July 2017 and July 2026, Eskom bargaining unit salaries will have increased by 75%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is much higher than the average inflation rate of 46% over the same period.
