The current R26.63 inland price of a litre of unleaded 95 is just 11 cents off the all-time record of R26.74 in July 2022.

FNB eBucks CEO Pieter Woodhatch told MyBroadband his team started discussing an increase in fuel earnings around 22 March 2026.

They decided to keep their solution simple. “Customers don’t need to rethink their spending or jump through hoops.”

“They just need to fuel up as they normally would. That’s what makes the benefit practical and impactful.”

The most affordable bank account that gets eBucks points is FNB Aspire. These customers normally get 60 cents’ worth of eBucks for every litre of fuel they buy at Engen.

They can earn another 30 cents per litre if they have a car financed through Wesbank or Toyota Financial Services (TFS).

Another 30 cents per litre is paid to those who cover their vehicle with FNB Short-Term Insurance. That means they can earn up to R1.20 under normal circumstances.

FNB’s Fuel Boost will increase that up to R1.80 per litre. On a 45-litre tank of fuel, these customers will earn an extra R27 in eBucks.

eBucks fuel earn for FNB Premier and Private customers is based on their Rewards Level and whether they use a physical or virtual card.

The monthly fees on these accounts suggest that the vast majority will have a smartphone that supports digital wallets for payments with virtual cards, which offer significantly higher eBucks return rates.

The maximum potential earnings is R4 per litre on Level 5 when using a virtual card, while physical card earnings are capped at a maximum of R0.20.

Up to R12 per litre back in eBucks

Pieter Woodhatch, FNB eBucks CEO

Meeting the same vehicle financing and insurance criteria as explained for Aspire customers will increase earnings by 50% for meeting one requirement or 100% for meeting both.

For example, Level 5 Premier and Private eBucks members who use their virtual cards to buy fuel receive an additional R2 for meeting either requirement, or another R4 for meeting both.

With the Fuel Boost adding another 50% on their regular R8 per-litre return, they will get R12’s worth of eBucks for every litre of fuel until the end of June 2026.

The total earnings per litre are roughly 45% of the fuel price, while the additional R4 earnings completely offset the latest increase and part of April’s hike.

Refilling a typical 45-litre tank with unleaded 95 inland will cost R1,198.35, and these customers will earn back R540 in eBucks.

The only additional requirement to qualify for the extra eBucks is spending a minimum of R450 on fuel at Engen stations in a month.

Woodhatch told MyBroadband the amount was based on what the bank calculated a typical motorcycle driver would spend in a month.

The maximum spend that qualifies for eBucks — also referred to as the Spend Cap — will remain the same.

Woodhatch said that FNB would consider extending the Fuel Boost benefit to the end of July based on the prevailing fuel price situation.

<h2
