Chinese tech giant Huawei unveiled its new mid-range smartphone, the Nova 15 Max, in Bangkok on Thursday, 7 May 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company has positioned the device as the new endurance leader in the mid-range segment, underscored by its massive 8,500mAh battery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nova 15 Max was built with a modern, flat-edge frame, flat display, and a circular camera bump on the rear reminiscent of the Huawei Mate 80 Pro’s camera bump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flat-edge frame was built using a high-gloss aluminium alloy, while high-quality woven fibreglass features on the back panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The extra-durable body is drop-resistant and is designed to better withstand the knocks and drops of everyday life,” Huawei said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The display has thin bezels for a more immersive content experience on its 6.84-inch AMOLED screen, with a 2,756 x 1,272-pixel resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Designed for entertainment as much as everyday use, the device pairs a vivid OLED display with symmetrical stereo dual speakers for a richer viewing experience,” Huawei said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The display uses Huawei’s durable Kunlun Glass, offering enhanced drop and scratch resistance. Despite the durability, the device feels light in the hand, despite its massive battery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Driving the Nova 15 Max’s performance is a Kirin 8000 chipset paired with 12GB of RAM. Internal storage starts at 256GB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding its photographic capabilities, the Nova 15 Max has a dual rear camera setup featuring a 50MP RYYB Ultra Vision sensor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Huawei’s RYYB, or red-yellow-yellow-blue, sensor is a proprietary colour filter array designed to improve low-light photography. It replaces traditional green pixels with yellow ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Huawei, the technology improves low-light photography by allowing roughly 40% more light intake, resulting in brighter and more detailed images in low light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Its 50 MP RYYB ultra vision camera also delivers more natural colour reproduction, even in low light or backlit environments,” it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rear camera also features a 2MP ultra lighting camera, which Huawei said provides great depth for potrait-style shots. On the front, users get an 8MP hole-punch camera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nova 15 Max’s showpiece is its massive battery. Huawei fitted the phone with an 8,500mAh pack that supports 40W fast charging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Featuring a massive 8,500 mAh Super Battery that powers all-day use, the Huawei Nova 15 Max eliminates battery anxiety,” Huawei said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Huawei will launch the Nova 15 Max in South Africa in July 2026. Local pricing remains to be confirmed, but the company plans to offer the device both for cash or on contract through its cellular partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The smartphone is available in three colours: Cyan, Gold, and Black. The blue and gold versions feature colour-coded camera bumps to match the body colour, as well as a chromed-red ring around it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Obsidian Black variant has a chromed-red and chromed-silver ring surrounding the camera bump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
