{"id":6469,"date":"2009-01-05T19:58:00","date_gmt":"2009-01-05T17:58:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2009-01-05T19:58:00","modified_gmt":"2009-01-05T17:58:00","slug":"what-broadband-users-want","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadband\/6469-what-broadband-users-want.html","title":{"rendered":"What broadband users want"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South African broadband users have in the past been raked over the coals with high priced services which are significantly worse than many of their international counterparts.&nbsp; But in the last few years things have started to change albeit at a slower rate than many were hoping for.&nbsp; Broadband prices have come down significantly, especially in the wireless and mobile broadband markets.<\/p>\n<p>While higher speeds and lower prices still dominate the wish lists of local broadband consumers, there are other things which users want and which should be addressed by broadband providers.&nbsp; The recent MyBroadband Survey provides some insight into what users are happy with and what they would like to see from their service providers.<\/p>\n<p>Higher usage limits (caps) remain the most requested feature apart from pricing.&nbsp; Users are becoming discerning and not only asking for higher caps but better network utilization as well.&nbsp; Many consumers feel that passing on the benefit of quiet periods on the network to consumers, in the form of higher after-hours usage limits or lower after-hours data rates, is long overdue.&nbsp; This is a common feature in the telephony space, and seen in many countries overseas.<\/p>\n<p>Users have also requested a true split in the cost of local and international bandwidth &ndash; not only after being capped or with account types, but rather real-time billing differentiation between local and international bandwidth usage. <\/p>\n<p>Bandwidth shaping was a bugbear for many iBurst and ADSL subscribers, who stated that they would like to see better performance on services other than mail and web surfing.<\/p>\n<p>In the wireless and mobile market many consumers said that improvements were required regarding reliability and the introduction of more innovative billing models.&nbsp; Bandwidth rollover &ndash; another feature which is standard with mobile airtime billing &ndash; is something which users are particularly keen on.<\/p>\n<p>Improved support also featured high on many users&rsquo; lists, asking for better helpdesk support and faster response times.<\/p>\n<p>Around 35% of broadband subscribers indicated that they are actively looking for a new broadband service, which presents an opportunity for innovative broadband providers to steal market share away from competitors.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php?t=152497\">What do you want from your broadband provider?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is not all about lower prices and higher speeds<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_sma_x_autopost_status":"idle","_sma_x_autopost_error":"","_sma_x_post_id":"","_sma_facebook_post_id":"","_sma_instagram_post_id":"","_sma_threads_post_id":"","_sma_x_attempts":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-6469","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-broadband"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6469"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=6469"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6469\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=6469"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=6469"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=6469"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
