The Wanderers Club denied that its members’ data was for sale on the deep web after a threat actor claimed to have obtained a database containing 674,000 records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The threat actor, who called themselves Databasehooligan, claimed to have breached the website hosted at wanderers.co.za. The website showed a broken WordPress install at the time of publication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They said that the dataset provided a “detailed look at the organisation’s operations, including Contacts, Sports Membership and Event Bookings.” Databasehooligan was selling the data for around R21,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lion’s Cricket, the owner and operator of Wanderers Stadium, told MyBroadband that it had not experienced any breach or cybersecurity incident affecting its systems or infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Following internal verification, we have found no evidence of any unauthorised access to or exposure of data from our environment,” it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It stated that the stadium and the nearby Wanderers Club were separate organisations and were not linked in any way from a systems or operational perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Based on the information contained in your email regarding booking information and customer records, this may possibly relate to Wanderers Club or another third party,” it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following publication, The Wanderers Club told MyBroadband that this assumption was incorrect and that the data did not come from its systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Yolo, as technology service provider, has reviewed the sample data, file names, and available indicators referenced in relation to the alleged breach,” said Frank Auger, the club’s acting general manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Based on that review, the sample data and file names do not align with the data structures, records, categories, or systems held or managed for The Wanderers Club.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
