{"id":652725,"date":"2026-06-08T12:26:39","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T10:26:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=652725"},"modified":"2026-06-08T12:31:30","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T10:31:30","slug":"iconic-south-african-life-insurance-company-hacked","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/652725-iconic-south-african-life-insurance-company-hacked.html","title":{"rendered":"Iconic South African life insurance company hacked"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Life insurance and financial services provider AVBOB has confirmed that a cybersecurity incident caused recent disruptions to some of its digital platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, AVBOB general manager for corporate affairs Adriaan Bester said the matter was being treated seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness, and our technical teams, together with specialist partners, are working around the clock to restore functionality,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said investigations to determine the full nature and extent of the incidents were still underway. AVBOB was still trying to determine whether clients&#8217; personal information may have been affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We can confirm that steady progress has already been made. Work continues at a rapid pace to restore functionality as quickly and safely as possible,&#8221; Bester said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We wish to assure our policyholders, partners, and stakeholders that we are actively managing the situation and prioritising the continuity of essential services.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that, while some systems and branch services remain affected, all AVBOB branches in the country remain operational and were able to assist with payments, claims, and funeral arrangements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AVBOB said clients might experience delays in making payments, but added they would not be negatively affected and that policyholders would not be prejudiced due to the disruptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It advised lients who experienced technical difficulties accessing AVBOB&#8217;s digital platforms to pay their premiums online using the <a href=\"https:\/\/payat.io\/qr\/11745\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/payat.io\/qr\/11745\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pay@ payment portal<\/a> on its website. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clients who need to submit new insurance claims are urged to do so directly via email at: myclaim@avbob.co.za. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We also urge everybody to make sure not to use any other link to make payments.
