Most of its bank charges remained unchanged.

Capitec’s monthly fee is R7.50, Capitec-to-Capitec payments are R1, payments to other banks are R2, and an immediate payment to any bank is R6.

Similarly, the fee for debit orders remained R3 each, and cash withdrawals at any bank’s ATM in South Africa are still R10 per R1,000.

The only changes were the fees for voucher purchases increasing from R2 to R3, while balance enquiries on international Mastercard machines decreased from R3 to R2.

Therefore, in real terms, taking inflation into account, Capitec’s banking clients will pay less than they did a year ago.

In addition to improving its products for existing customers, Lee believes Capitec has an opportunity to expand its financial services to offer something for everyone.

“I like to think that 95% of South Africans should have a Capitec something, whether it’s a bank account or something beyond that,” Lee stated.

“Time will tell, but we’ve always had a vision to serve the vast majority of South Africans, and we’re working towards that. We have a long way to go still.”

Affordable data and smartphones

Lee said that although Capitec wanted to broaden its appeal, there was an even bigger opportunity to serve its existing clients even better.

“There is an opportunity to raise the quality of what we give them, to raise the quality of the service they get, to reduce prices further, and to enable them with more things,” he said.

“Whether it be connectivity to the outside world, whether it be insuring their lives so their families are taken care of if something goes wrong, or whether it’s investing on an excellent platform.”

Capitec Connect was a strong growth area for the bank during the financial year ended 28 February 2026, with income surging by 38% to R6.1 billion.

In addition to offering highly competitive data prices, Capitec started offering customers who purchase devices and link their number to their bank account 5GB of free data each month for 12 months.

Over the next year, Capitec Connect will be expanded to enable home connectivity via partnerships and expand access to device financing and affordable data.

Growing South Africa through business banking

Lee said another significant opportunity for Capitec was to grow business banking in South Africa, which he said speaks to their purpose.

“Not only is that an opportunity for us to grow, it’s an opportunity for us to grow South Africa,” he said.

Capitec introduced an entrepreneur account, designed specifically around the needs of small and informal business owners.

The account has no monthly fees for qualifying personal banking clients and allows card payments via a linked Capitec card machine with low commission.

The account also gives entrepreneurs access to capital, with credit facilities of up to R500,000 based on business turnover to support growth.

“When we help business get paid better, when we advance credit to allow them to buy the thing that can make them more productive, those businesses grow much more quickly than any other.”

Lee said successful businesses don’t just grow in terms of turnover and sales, but also increase the wealth of the business owner.

“That business owner then starts hiring staff and grows employment in South Africa, and that’s where employment is going to come from in the future,” he said.

“I’m as excited about our business banking opportunity as I am about everything else.
