If the types of deals Amazon offers in the US version of its flagship sales event are anything to go by, South Africans should be very excited for the retailer’s first local Prime Day Sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, MyBroadband has frequently compiled the best deals available on the Amazon.com Prime Day Sale and found plenty of items selling for much cheaper than locally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, many products did not ship to South Africa, while cross-border shipping fees and taxes also frequently cut or eliminated the discount compared to buying locally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Amazon.co.za and a Prime subscription, the price customers see will be the price they get. Plus, delivery turnarounds will be much quicker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Global research firm HarrisX has found that\u00a0South African shoppers are becoming increasingly strategic and deal-focused during major sales events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

40% of shoppers compare prices before purchasing during major sales, 33% make shopping lists ahead of shopping events, and 30% wait specifically for discounts before purchasing certain items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amazon has promised deep cuts on thousands of products in its first South African Prime Day sale, which is running from 00:01 on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, until the end of Monday, 29 June 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This year’s event delivers deep discounts on the big-ticket items members have been waiting to shop,” Amazon said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“[It includes] savings on all the things you want and need for winter’s biggest moments \u2013 from school holiday activities and games to essentials for friends and family get-togethers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many of the offers will be exclusive to members on its Prime subscription, which costs R59 per month or R399 per year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prime membership has been one of the retailer’s biggest drawing cards and revenue boosters in other markets. At its price point in South Africa, it offers incredible value for money. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Membership provides users with free same-day and next-day deliveries on Prime-eligible products, as well as access to Prime Video and several Prime Gaming benefits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Considering the subscriptions come with a free 30-day trial, many people will be able to shop the sale without paying for Prime, assuming they cancel their subscription before the trial lapses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even those who subscribed to Prime at its South African launch on 1 June 2026 will be able to cancel their trial after the sale ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amazon has provided a preview of the discounts that will be available on certain product categories during the sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deals will include up to 45% off toys, 40% off beauty products, books, and wireless devices, and up to 35% off electronics and gaming items. More specific offers mentioned by Amazon include: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Up to 40% off on Samsung Galaxy Buds <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Up to 35% off Apple MacBooks<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Up to 40% off iPhones <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Up to 50% off Weber Braais, including the Weber E-5750 Master-Touch Charcoal Grill Braai, and the\u00a0Weber Gas Barbecue<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Up to 25% off Smeg appliances. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Unspecified offer on the Mellerware Steam\/dry\/spray iron <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Unspecified offer on the Russel Hobbs 9L dual digital air fryer<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Unspecified offer on LEGO memorabilia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Prime members can also expect limited-time Flash Deals daily between 18:00 and 20:00 until the end of the sale. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Prime Day sale could be a major test for Amazon.co.za’s fulfilment capabilities. In MyBroadband’s tests to date, the company has performed exceptionally well in keeping to its delivery promises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In one particularly impressive example on Monday, 22 June 2026, a MyBroadband reader with a Prime membership ordered a Bluetooth adapter for his car at 11:00 and received it at 14:35. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
