Japanese company Sony is laying claim to having the lightest laptop ever. The company this week announced a new Sony Vaio 8-inch laptop which the company says is the lightest in its class. <\/p>\n
The new notebook will weigh less than 1kg and will be as thin as a mobile phone. <\/p>\n
The price tag, however, isn’t nearly as light. Announcing the laptop at the Consumer Electronics Show Sony said that expected to sell the laptop for around $900 (R9 000) which is substantially pricier than existing netbook PCs with which the Vaio will compete. <\/p>\n
Locally the most expensive netbooks cost R1 000 less than the new Vaio. The high-end Acer Aspire one sells for approximately R8 000 with built-in 3G. <\/p>\n
The new Sony Vaio will ship with Windows Vista operating system, which also makes is mostly unique in a market which has adopted Linux or XP as the preferred operating system for netbooks. <\/p>\n
