South Africa will be among more than 50 countries to receive the iPhone 5 on 14 December 2012, Apple announced in a press statement today (3 December 2012).<\/p>\n

This is in-line with the expected local launch windows of the device, as the iPhone 4S also had a mid-December launch date in South Africa last year (2011) after being announced in October.<\/p>\n

A larger display and Long Term Evolution (LTE) support are among the features boasted by the device, though LTE is unlikely to work in SA at launch.<\/p>\n

The iPhone 5 comes in either black & slate or white & silver for a suggested contract pay-in retail price in the US of $199 for the 16GB model, $299 for the 32GB model, and $399 for the 64GB model.<\/p>\n

Apple also lists contract-free pricing on its website: $649 for the 16GB model,\u00a0$749 for the 32GB model, and $849 for the 64GB model.<\/p>\n
